New Workflows in Filmmaking

A look at technologies redefining modern storytelling. Speakers from USC's Entertainment Technology Center, Conrad Curtis from Beeble/Xgrids, and researchers from Netflix's Eyeline Studios, will talk about three new technologies that will reshape the media we make, who makes it, and how it's being made.

This is an In-Person Event.

Description

This will be an in-person event at The Clubhouse in Santa Monica, one of Los Angeles' newest venues, which is quickly becoming a hub for those pushing the limits of how technology is used in their creations.

Description:
This event focuses on how traditional workflows are changing and what people using these new technologies have to say. What are the advantages of using them, and what are some of the drawbacks? If you've been interested in finding out more about these new tools and techniques, this is the event for you.

Conrad Curtis will talk about creating A.I. assisted, VFX with Beeble Switch X and spatial filmmaking, giving the audience a demo of the XGRIDS PortalCam, which recently became the first product to win four NAB Product of the Year awards in a single year. The XGRIDS camera enables physical environments to become structured spatial data that's usable across production, simulation, and AI-driven applications.

Erik Weaver and the team from the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at USC will talk about how AI inverts the traditional pipeline using their work on the shorts, "The Bends" and "Pathways" as examples. They used the usual craft heads in their AI workflow, augmenting them with AI and using responsible AI.

Finally, we'll get a look at technology being developed at Netflix's Eyeline Studios. They'll give us a look at the technology that they are working on, the Vista4D, which uses Gaussian Splat technology to allow filmmakers to re-frame a shot after it's been filmed!
